"It's one of the northern tribes. The Thunder Storm Tribe." Ry'ka said looking away. My heart sank. My own tribe, the people I loved were giving me away to those monsters. "What?!" I cried in outrage making Ry'ka flinch. I may be small and weak compared to anthros around me but I wouldn't let that stop me from speaking my mind.
"The elders are really going to make me marry one of those killers?! The very same tribe that is the reason my mother and father are dead!" I couldn't believe it. I felt like my heart was being slowly crushed. "Rax, please calm down. I'm sure the elders wouldn't just marry you off to that tribe without taking precautions." Ry'ka tried to explain but I wouldn't have any of it.
"They're making me wed someone who could have been the one that crushed my parents!" I screamed. "We don't know that!" Ry'ka yelled so loud the power of her voice made me roll onto my back. "There was!" The rabbit stopped herself and looked away from me. "There were so many of us running that day, no one bothered to check what might have been below their feet Rax. It could have been anyone that killed them." Ry'ka did her best to hide her tears but they fell from her eyes regardless.
The possibility of what she said chilled me to the bone. I didn't want to believe the idea that someone from our own tribe could have been responsible for my parents' deaths. Ry'ka's hand began to shake as she tried to hold back her sobbing. I knew what I had to do to calm her down. Crawling over to her thumb I hugged it tightly and began to pet it.
Almost immediately Ry'ka calmed down and looked at me. Her fur was matted from her tears. "It's ok Ry'ka," I said in a soothing voice. I couldn't believe what I was going to say next but I had to do it for her. I can't stand to see those I care for suffer. "Let's just... leave the past in the past for now. What species were the Thunder Storm tribe again?"
"Well," Ry'ka wiped her face. "Their."
