They stumbled downstairs to the main living area, a graveyard of last night’s party. The big TV was already on, tuned to a news station. A bleary-eyed, stunned-looking anchor was speaking over a graphic that read “SWAPTYX INCIDENT: AREA-WIDE EMERGENCY.”

“…confirmed reports of a mass… transformative event… originating from the Swaptyx Labs campus in Palo Alto early this morning. Men within an approximate twenty-mile radius have reported… uh… waking up with female secondary sex characteristics. Authorities are urging calm…”

Cody sank onto the stained couch, the news report washing over him. He felt numb. Derek paced in front of the TV, his new breasts bouncing with each agitated step.

“They turned us into girls,” Derek muttered, running a hand through his long hair, a gesture that was now strangely elegant. “They fucking turned the whole goddamn Valley into girls.”

The crier--Mark--was still crying softly, hunched over on the recliner, trying to hide his new body. The pixie--their frat brother Liam--was scrolling frantically through his phone. “It’s all over Insta. Look. Coach Johnson. He’s a milf now. A total milf.”

Cody’s own phone, which he’d finally retrieved from his nightstand, was a river of notifications. Missed calls from his mom. Dozens of texts in the frat group chat, a chaotic mix of panic, hysterical laughter, and crude comparisons.

A text from his buddy Chase, who lived across town: dude. i have tits. i just cupped them. they’re real.

Cody looked down at his own chest. He tentatively cupped one. It was warm. The skin was soft. The nipple hardened under his touch, sending a completely foreign, deeply confusing jolt straight to the new, unfamiliar place between his legs. He snatched his hand away like he’d been burned.

“This is so fucked,” he whispered.

“No shit,” Derek snapped, stopping his pacing. He looked at Cody, his gaze dropping to Cody’s chest, then back to his face. A weird, hungry look flashed in his eyes. It was the same look he got when a particularly hot girl walked into a party. It was a look Cody knew well. He’d never been on the receiving end of it before.

“We need to… assess the situation,” Derek said, his voice lower, more controlled. He walked over and sat on the coffee table directly in front of Cody, leaning forward. His gym shorts gaped, giving Cody an unintended and deeply unsettling view. “We’re stuck like this. For now. We gotta figure shit out.”

“Figure what out?” Mark whimpered. “How to get our dicks back!”

“Later,” Derek said, not taking his eyes off Cody. “First, we gotta know what we’re working with.”

Before Cody could process what was happening, Derek reached out and palmed Cody’s left breast through the thin cotton of his shirt.

Cody gasped. The touch was electric, invasive, and shockingly pleasant. His body jolted, a fresh wave of sensation pulsing through him. He tried to shove Derek’s hand away, but his arms felt weak.

“Derek, what the hell!”

“Jesus, they’re firm,” Derek murmured, squeezing gently, a clinical curiosity in his tone that was utterly at odds with the intimate act. “Really nice, dude. You lucked out.”

Liam looked up from his phone, his mouth agape. Mark had stopped crying and was just staring.

“Get the fuck off me!” Cody finally found the strength to bat his hand away, scrambling back on the couch, his face flaming. His heart was racing, and that strange, throbbing ache between his legs was back, stronger now. It was a demanding, empty feeling.

Derek just smirked, looking down at his own hand as if it had discovered something fascinating. “Sorry, bro. Had to know. We’re scientists now. This is fieldwork.” He stood up and turned to Mark. “Your turn.”

Mark shrieked and curled into a ball as Derek advanced. The chaotic, absurd horror of the morning had just taken a sharp, personal, and deeply confusing turn. The hangover was the least of Cody’s problems. He was a girl. His bros were girls. And the rules of the world he knew had just been completely erased.
