"Hold on, hold on!" Jay yelled, his voice a throaty, panicked alto. "I am not Chloe! My name is Jay Robinson! I'm a man! I've been... swapped!"
The photographer stared at him, his brow furrowed in confusion. "Swapped? What are you talking about, Chloe? Are you... messing with me?"
"No! I'm serious!" Jay insisted, the panic in his voice rising. "There's this app, Swaptyx, and I hit the wrong button! I'm supposed to be at home watching a football game with my son, Kyle!"
The photographer, a man who had seen everything in his years in the business, paused. He had heard about Swaptyx. "Swaptyx... hmm," he mused, tapping a finger against his chin.
"I don't know what happened!" Jay cried out, gesturing with manicured hands. "I just want to go back! Can you help me? Do you know where I am? Where... where is Chloe?"
The photographer looked at him, then at the camera, then back at Jay. A slow, calculating look came over his face. "Look, I don't know about any of this. All I know is that I have a contract to get a picture of Chloe, and if I don't, I don't get paid." He sighed, running a hand over his face. "If you're really not Chloe, and you're some guy named Jay, then she's probably at your house right now, in your body."
Jay's eyes widened. "Kyle! My son!" he shouted. "She's with my son! I have to get home!"
The photographer held up a hand. "Woah, hold your horses. You're not going anywhere without me. I need Chloe back. And if you're telling the truth, then you need me, because I'm the only person who knows what the hell is going on. We'll be allies. You help me get Chloe back so I can get my money, and I'll help you get your old body back. Fair?"
Jay, who was still reeling from the sheer insanity of it all, could only nod. It was a bizarre arrangement, but it was better than being alone. "Okay," he said, his voice softer now, "Okay, we're a team. Now... where do we start?"
