The old woman shuffled out of the bathroom, and Jay stood frozen, his eyes fixed on the horrifying spectacle in the mirror. His mind reeled. This wasn't some sick joke. He wasn’t dreaming. This was real. And the reality of it—the sight of his new, shapely body, the feeling of the tiny bikini top straining against his chest—made his stomach churn. He had to cover up. He had to get out of this ridiculous outfit and into something, anything, that felt remotely like clothing.
He stumbled out of the bathroom, the click-clack of his heels a drumbeat of pure mortification. He went to the rest stop’s little gift shop. He bypassed the racks of tourist junk and went straight for the clothing section. He found a rack of oversized t-shirts with dumb slogans. “I ❤️ My Trucker” was one. “Diesel Power” was another. He grabbed the largest one he could find, a 4X, and paid for it with shaky hands. The cashier, a plump woman with a kind face, looked at him with a strange, pitying expression.
“That’s a big shirt, honey,” she said. “You sure you got the right size?”
He just nodded, his throat too tight to speak. He paid and bolted out of the store, the paper bag clutched in his hand like a lifeline. He went straight back to the men’s bathroom. He was taking no chances with the women's room. He was a man, and he was going to stay in the men's room, even if he was in a woman’s body.
He locked the stall door behind him and fumbled with the paper bag. He pulled out the t-shirt, a massive gray thing with “Got Fuel?” emblazoned on the front. He ripped the bikini top off first, the thin straps protesting, and pulled the t-shirt over his head. The loose, heavy cotton felt like a shield, a blessed, glorious piece of armor against the world. He sighed, a shudder running through him. The shirt fell to his thighs, a beautiful, shapeless sack of fabric that hid all his new, humiliating curves. He tore off the bikini bottom next, tossing it into the trash. The feeling of the cool air on his bare skin was a strange mix of relief and… something else. Something he couldn't quite name.
He stood there for a moment, just breathing, the shirt a comfort. Then he walked out of the stall and stood in front of the mirror, the oversized t-shirt hanging loosely on his new body. He looked like a child playing dress-up. But at least he was covered.
The curiosity, however, was a nagging itch he couldn't ignore. He had to know. He had to understand what had happened to him. He slowly pulled the t-shirt up, his eyes fixed on the mirror. The monstrous twin globes of his breasts appeared first, then the flat stomach, the slender waist, the flare of his hips. He took a deep, shuddering breath and let the shirt fall. The image was a punch to the gut. This was his body now. This was his reality.
He lifted the shirt again, this time with a grim determination. He prodded his chest, the fleshy, perky globes feeling both soft and firm. His fingers left a faint impression in the skin. The skin itself was smooth, soft to the touch, and surprisingly warm. He poked them again, a bit harder this time, feeling the strange, almost painful jolt of sensation. The nipple, a hard little bud of flesh, was an utter obscenity. He recoiled, his hand flying back as if he had touched a live wire. This was not a joke. This was an invasion. His body was a foreign country, and he was the unwilling tourist.
He ran his hands over his stomach, which was flat and toned. The muscles felt solid underneath the smooth skin. He traced the line of his hips, the gentle curve feeling so wrong, so alien. He reached back and felt the new, firm curve of his ass, a part of his body that had once been a flat, unmemorable part of his anatomy. Now it was a sculpted, fleshy reality. He felt a wave of disgust, a feeling so strong it made him want to vomit.
He bent down, his new body moving in a way that felt both fluid and foreign. He looked at his legs, long and muscular, a stark contrast to the thick, squat legs he’d had before. The Lucite heels were a ridiculous touch, a final, humiliating flourish. He took them off, his new feet, small and delicate, feeling a blessed relief as they touched the cool, tiled floor.
He looked at his new face in the mirror, the heart-shaped face with the high cheekbones and freckles. It was a beautiful face. But it wasn’t his. It was a mask, a new face he had to wear, a disguise he was trapped in. He ran a hand over his new hair, the waterfall of platinum blonde feeling so foreign against his skin. This wasn't his life. He was a man, a husband, a father. He had responsibilities. He had a mortgage. He had a delivery to make.
A slow, creeping despair began to fill his chest, a cold, empty feeling that made him want to curl up into a ball and cry. But he couldn’t cry. The tears would just run down this new, beautiful face, and that would be another betrayal. He just stood there, in a men's rest stop bathroom, a man trapped in a woman’s body, his new breasts heaving with silent sobs. This wasn't a party trick. This wasn't something a buddy turned into for a laugh. This was a goddamned punishment. And he had no idea why.
He slowly pulled the oversized shirt back down, hiding the horrifying reality of his new body. He had a long way to go, a long drive to make. And now he knew, with a bone-deep certainty, that this wasn’t just a bad day. It was a bad life. The rest of it, in this body, was going to be nothing but a long, miserable, humiliating journey. He just hoped no one else was in the bathroom. He couldn’t face anyone right now. He just wanted to disappear.
