Jonas Keller reeked of Cool Ranch Doritos and desperation.

He slumped in his gaming chair, sweat-slick boxers sticking to his thighs, tapping idly at the greasy keys of his mechanical keyboard. On the screen, his Reddit tab was open to r/RealFansOnly, where he'd just posted a three-paragraph takedown of someone claiming Phase Five Scarlet Witch was stronger than OG Dark Phoenix. Rookie take. Jonas hit send with a burp, then leaned back, cracking his knuckles.

God, these people didn’t get it. He lived this stuff. Ate, breathed, sweated Marvel vs. DC debates. He might not look the part, but he knew the lore. And this weekend? He was going to prove it. Cross-country convention. Big-time panels. Rare merch. Real cosplayers. The kind who made his browser history embarrassing.

But most important of all: the SwapPort Cosplay Showcase Package.

He stared at the confirmation email again, like it might vanish.

Thank you for booking with Swaptyx! Your randomized cosplay avatar will be assigned upon arrival at the West Coast Comic Nexus Convention Center. Costume experiences last 48 hours. Please arrive clean and sober. No swaps under the influence. No children or animals. No refunds.

Jonas scratched his belly. "Randomized cosplay," he muttered. “C’mon, just gimme Thor or something. Captain Britain? I’ll even take some musclebound NPC from Invincible.”

What he couldn’t afford was one of the Custom Premium Packages—the kind that let rich assholes waltz into hot fantasy bodies like it was Halloween. Jonas had burned half his stimulus check and sold a signed Lobo statue just to book coach-level access. He was gambling on getting a body with abs, or at least arms that didn’t jiggle when he saluted.

He didn’t want to be Jonas Keller this weekend. Jonas Keller couldn’t talk to women without tripping over his words. Jonas Keller lived with his mom and argued about Green Lantern lore like it mattered.

But maybe...maybe in a different body, people would take him seriously. Maybe he’d get laid.

The SwapPort pod loomed ahead, glossy and chrome, like a fancy airport bathroom had sex with a tanning bed. A bored tech gestured him in without looking up.

"You good on all the disclaimers?" she asked.

He nodded, swallowing dryly.

She didn’t even glance up from her clipboard. "Happy con, sir."

He stepped into the pod. It hissed shut around him. The lights dimmed. A strange warmth bloomed at the base of his spine, rushing upward.

Jonas Keller disappeared.
