“You’re taking this very well,” Fitz said, eyes narrowing.

“Well…” She hesitated, then leaned in close. “There’s something you forgot about me. Something I think you keep forgetting.”

“What?”

She grinned. “I like girls.”

He blinked. “Oh. Like… from college?”

“Fitz. Babe. That wasn’t a phase. I didn’t trade it in with my meal plan.”

Fitz flushed deeper. “So when you’ve been saying I look—”

“I meant it.” She leaned in, brushing her hand against his hip. “You’re kind of hot. And I’m kind of into it.”

For a moment he just stood there, heart thudding, tank top clinging to his chest like a wet glove. The new weight, the curves, the cold air—all of it collided with her words in a disorienting rush.

He cleared his throat. “I—I need to get changed. This is ridiculous.”

“Good idea,” Miriam said brightly. “Bathroom’s right there.”

He turned to go. She followed.

At the door to the family stall, he hesitated. She was standing right there with him. “I’m fine going in alone. It’s just a shirt swap.”

“Sure,” Miriam said. “But if you want… I could join you.”

Fitz blinked. “Wait, what?”

“I’m just saying.” She leaned against the wall, eyes dancing. “If you’re already topless and flustered and adorable in there, maybe I keep you company. Help you get changed.”

“Miriam.”

“Fitz.”

He stared at her. “You’re serious.”

She gave him a little wink. “You look like a confused freshman on her first spring break. And I might be feeling a little nostalgic for dorm hookups.”

Fitz swallowed.

Behind them, Rory’s distant voice cried, “Nolan threw a pickle at me!”

Miriam raised an eyebrow. “Tick tock, Fitz.”

He reached for the door handle. “Okay. But we’re locking it.”

Her grin was all teeth and warmth. “Obviously.”

And together, they disappeared into the stall.
