Devin Cho sat in a coffee shop in Los Angeles. The table was sticky, and the air smelled like burnt espresso and old milk. He wore a hoodie with holes at the cuffs, dark jeans, and sneakers with peeling soles. His silver-dyed hair was pushed back, a little greasy at the roots. He looked tired. His phone was cracked. His laptop was barely still working.

Two producers sat across from him. One was a white woman in her 30s with long nails painted neon green. She wore a tight T-shirt with Britney Spears on it, yoga pants, and big gold earrings. The other was a white man, maybe 40, with short dark hair, a five o’clock shadow, and a Bluetooth headset he kept adjusting even though he wasn’t on a call.

The man talked first.

“We want you for a new show. It’s called The Honey Trap.”

Devin raised his eyebrows. “Okay?”

The woman leaned forward. She smelled like fruity gum and body spray.

“It’s a dating show. One man, thirteen women. But one of the women is actually a man. A man who’s been fully transformed—body, voice, everything. Using Swaptyx tech. We’re talking full-on girl now. Tits, ass, pussy, the works. All fake, all real enough to fool a straight guy.”

Devin looked between them. “So… you want me to be the fake girl?”

The man nodded. “Yes. We want someone who can act. Someone who can lie well. Someone who knows how to fool people. You’re a trained actor, right?”

“I’ve done a lot of theater,” Devin said slowly.

The woman smiled. “Exactly. That’s why you’re perfect. This isn’t about identity or gender politics. You’re not trans, you’re not doing drag. You’re just pretending. For money. For the win. Like a role. If the bachelor picks you in the end, you get one million dollars. Taxable, obviously.”

Devin scratched the back of his neck. He hadn’t paid rent in two months. His last job was handing out flyers for a weed delivery service. His credit card was maxed out. His last headshot session was paid for with borrowed cash.

“What if he figures it out?” he asked.

“Then you’re out,” the man said flatly. “No money. Game over.”

Devin looked at his phone. A Venmo notification said he was overdrawn again.

DEVIN (sitting alone in front of a white wall, giving an interview): “I wasn’t shocked. Honestly, this is exactly the kind of weird shit that would find me. I’ve played a tree, I’ve played a dying kid with leukemia. This is just… another role.”

Back in the café, the woman pulled a folder out of her bag. “We’ve done some planning. You’ll get a new name. A full Swaptyx treatment. Full transformation. Nobody—not the guy, not the girls—will know who you are. But the audience will. That’s the fun.”

Devin leaned back in his seat. His jeans were tight at the waist. He hadn’t eaten yet today.

“Okay,” he said. “Fine. I’ll do it.”

Both producers smiled. The man clapped once. The woman pulled out a tablet and opened a file.

“Now,” she said. “Let’s talk about what you’ll look like.”

She handed Devin the tablet. On the screen were three mock-ups—photos of what he might look like after the Swaptyx process.

She scrolled between them. “Pick one. This is your new body.”
