Alan Bixby pushed open the glass door of the server corridor, still unsteady on his new feet. Every step jiggled, bounced, or rubbed in a way that was completely foreign to him. His breathing was quick, his chest rising and falling with an exaggerated softness that both alarmed and mesmerized him. The way his hips moved—unbidden, automatic—felt like someone had hijacked his walk cycle and replaced it with a strut.
Just outside the corridor, near the break area, two Swaptyx employees stood in the middle of the hallway, clearly fresh from their own transformations. Alan froze and ducked back behind the corner wall to listen.
"Jesus Christ," one of them said in a bright, slightly nasal voice. "You feel this? I mean, feel this? My thighs keep touching. I don't know where to put my arms."
"Gawd, stop being a baby. It's like you've never changed before," the other one said, sounding more exasperated.
"Of course I have! You think the wife and I don't have fun over the weekends? But they could have at least told us this was happening today."
"I'm trying not to think about it."
"Easy for you to say. You're hot. I'm stuck as a fattie."
Alan peeked. He recognized them immediately, despite the changes. Dennis Yao, once a skinny, bespectacled systems engineer, was now a willowy brunette in a tight Swaptyx hoodie, her—his?—slender fingers fidgeting with the drawstrings like he didn't know what to do with his hands. Next to him was Frankie Benitez, formerly broad-shouldered and stocky, now short, curvy, and looking deeply annoyed with the way her—his—leggings clung to every curve.
Dennis looked down at his chest and sighed. "I think my boobs are heavier than our RAID array."
"Yeah, and you got the good ones," Frankie muttered. "Look at these. Not even As. What the hell is this? Am I even pubescent?"
Alan ducked back, holding his breath. It had only been two minutes. The changes were spreading across the company like wildfire.
Neither of them seemed horrified. Irritated, sure. But they weren't panicking. It was like someone had changed the coffee machine settings overnight.
Alan swallowed and walked briskly to the elevator. The new bounce in his stride made it hard to ignore the reality of his new body. Every swaying motion, every delicate shift of balance made him hyper-aware of what had changed. The elevator dinged. He stepped inside and hit the button for Sub-Level 3: R&D Core Labs. Lab 7.
He entered the elevator, trembling. As the doors slid shut, he glanced at himself in the metal wall’s reflection—hourglass, long red waves, full breasts, delicate thighs. The car smelled faintly of lavender. He closed his eyes. Just the code—an IT problem. Just a normal day.
But then he felt the familiar brush of thigh against thigh, a warmth that started low and grew fast. A quivering breath escaped his luscious lips. Focus, he told himself, as he smoothed the fabric of his tight blouse.
