Byron sat in his suburban rental, shirtless, staring at his phone. The living room smelled like microwaved burritos and desperation. A half-assembled treadmill sat untouched in the corner, next to a half-read book called Reinventing Yourself After 40. The cover showed a smiling silver fox in a blazer. Byron wasn't nearly so well-dressed; he was wearing sweatpants with a mustard stain and no underwear.

“Alright,” he muttered. “Let’s see what all the hype’s about.”
