Instead of yet another customer to flatten you further into the seat, you hear Tina's voice high above you. It's like music to your ears. Until you hear what she's asking Chenny.
"Hey have you seen the Manager? The owner's here. I guess she had an appointment with him for some kind of review? We can't find him anywhere though," she asks sounding nervous.
...as if this day could possibly get any worse. While you were under the parade of asses courtesy of your "best employee," you had completely forgotten that your boss - Miss Pembridge - had her monthly appointment today to check in on the salon. It was usually fairly quick as she kept a tight schedule. But if she saw even the smallest thing she didn't like, it meant very bad news for you. And she's been waiting!
Chenny masks a smile. "No Tina, I haven't seen him since lunch. You keep looking and I'll go talk to Miss Pembridge," Chenny says with a smile.
The stylist confidently walks up to the counter.
"I'm so sorry to keep you waiting Miss Pembridge," she says with much more respect than you'd ever received from her. "I'm sure our manager will be here shortly. In the meantime, I'm happy to show you our books and our schedule. You can see that our appointments are completely full and that we're booking just over a week out. Clients have all paid and tipped without issue. We had...ah....one small exception due to a scheduling issue with a regular, but Tina and I made sure to resolve it to retain her business," she said.
"Yes, Barbie and I talk regularly. She told me what happened. That's one of the things I wanted to talk to your manager about. But now he's...."
She stops talking as she's interrupted by Tina. "Oh my gosh! Mister Manager! What happened?!" she squeals at finally discovering your squashed body on Chenny's chair. She peels you up and briskly carries you over to the desk.
"I....ah...I found him! I have no idea how he ended up there. Poor guy. Chen has been booked back to back all day!"
"Right," Miss Pembridge says with a sigh. You continue to struggle to reform to apologize and explain, but your boss doesn't give you the chance. "I don't want to hear how he ended up there, but from my point of view it's just strike three all in one day. Look, I know you have the background and education for this, but it's clear you're not management material," she says sternly.
Her eyes turn to Chenny.
"This young lady, however," she says with a smile, "Seems to be brimming with what it takes. Confidence, business knowledge, and it's clear she has the respect of her peers. What do you think Chanelle? Want to be the new manager?"
Chenny shrieks in excitement and accepts on the spot.
Miss Pembridge sighs. "Still, it's a shame to waste the investment of that elevator and I don't want to lose your rent money. So I won't be firing you," she says once again focused on you. "But we'll have to reassign you. For now...."
1. "...you'll come with me." Miss Pembridge takes you with her and personally punishes you for your failures, including making her wait.
2. "....I'll trust that you can find a place for him Channele?" Miss Pembridge tasks Chenny with finding your new role.
3. "....you can just...go back to whatever you were doing...." Miss Pembridge asks Tina to once again place you on Chenny's salon seat.
4. "....Barbie wanted to talk to you as well." Miss Pembridge has you taken to see Dr. Barbie
