Gwendolyn once again jerked awake after another night of fairies haunting her. She lied back with a frustrated groan she was sick of these nightmares. She recalled the events and remember the fairies little slip up. Us huh, she thought, perhaps the reason and demise of that little fairy was greatly exaggerated.
She got out of the chair she had fallen asleep in and stretched. She noticed the sun shining in through the window and looking down she noticed she looked to have grown more through the night. She now had a belly that rivaled a woman six months gone and approaching seven. She had to deal with this curse as quickly as possible. If there was any truth to that fairy’s words, she had to stop this before she outgrew the city.
Curious if her new clothes were done, she headed back to the tailor’s workspace.
She found the tailor sitting at his counter sipping tea, he noticed her approaching and perked up. “Ah, good morning lass, did you sleep well.” She smiled weakly at him and said “Not so much.” He looked disappointingly at her and replied. “Sorry to hear that but the good news is I finished your outfit.” He exclaimed his excited expression beaming with pride, he rushed into the backroom saying all the while. “I don’t mean to brag milady but I kind of got swept up in the moment. I may have put a little more effort into this than I had intended.”
He came out carrying a bundle of dark clothes. “I had a feeling you would appreciate darker hues, good for night time travels.” He said with a wink, he handed her the bundle and pointed her to the changing room.
She entered the changing room and removed her gear, and caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror confirming her suspicious. She saw that she had indeed grown larger during the night. Her stomach would make her appear obviously pregnant if not for the lack of growth anywhere else.
Tired of looking at her weird body she focused back on her new outfit. First, she took out the pants, they were sturdy but didn’t impede her movement at all and as a bonus felt wonderful. They had buttons on the bottom of the pants legs to allow even more mobility and in the front of the crotch there was a button to hold in the elastic waistband. She undid the button and let her belly push out into the stretchy crotch. It was amazing and fit perfectly.
She then focused her attention to the top, It was a billowy black dress that reached to her mid thighs, at the chest area was a bodice that could be laced up like her older one. It also had a pair of short puffy sleeves on her shoulders with a hole that exposed her supple shoulders. It was a little fancier that her old outfit but she didn’t care too much. Once again as she slipped on the top, she noticed that even though she had grown it still fit fine.
The kind old tailor had even given her a new larger cloak and a stretchy woven belt. She slipped on the belt and attached her various satchels and weapons. Then finally slipped on the cloak and admired the whole ensemble.
She rushed back into the work space and gave the tailor an enthusiastic hug. “Thank you so much, I love it.” She cried giving the old man a kiss.
He smiled knowingly as she released him and said. “You know this isn’t the first time I saw a girl like you.” He said rubbing her belly gently. “Many years ago, when I was still an apprentice, a woman visited my mentor her belly swollen up like a prized pumpkin. She said it had been the work of a fairy she had run into at the woods, it had placed a spell on her that caused her to grow and grow.” Gwen’s face grew redder as his story unfurled. “What happened to her.” She asked her interest peaked. “Don’t know, turns out she was a thief or something, not someone you can keep track of.” He said glancing at Gwen, who fidgeted uncomfortably. “But I sure you don’t know anything about that.” He said with a smile, Gwen just glared at him, not amused by his joking. “That was when I had all these ideas for an outfit, I glad you like it.”
“I do indeed, thank you again.” He smiled warmly and waved goodbye adding. “If you need anything bigger, stop by any time.”
As she exited the building and returned to the now busy streets, she thought of her next destination.
