As you look, trembling, at Maria's angry, hungry eyes and you feel the anticipation in her words, her train of thought is interrupted by a Facebook Chat call on her phone from.....you?
"Huh?" Maria says confused, her eyes shifting between her phone and you.
With a sigh, she answers the call, still holding you in a firm and secure grip.
"Is this...is this Maria?" you hear a familiar voice ask out of sight. It's Cassie!
"Yes?" Maria responds in confusion.
Apparently Cassie found a way to get the ditsy, but well intentioned, Irina to confess to her plans. The first thing she did was call Maria, hoping to find a way to rescue you despite the distance.
You heard her muffled conversation over Facebook Chat and as the women spoke, you felt Maria's grip on you soften. She was a good hearted person and though she felt hurt and betrayed, she quickly realized that her anger at you was misplaced. She quickly agreed to arrange for a meeting with Cassie as soon as your fiance could get back from Atlantica.
After ending the call, Maria looked down at you in her hand red faced and embarrassed.
"I'm so sorry Jake. You were telling the truth the whole time and I was too selfish and caught up in my own plans to listen to you. I nearly punished you for what someone else did. I hope you can forgive me?" she asked earnestly.
You put your hand on Maria's larger palm in your best attempt at being reassuring. You held no negative feelings toward your old friend. She was as much a victim of Irina as you were.
"It's OK Maria. I know how crazy that story sounded. But like I said, most of my life has been that way," you said with a giggle meant to reassure her.
She looked back at you with a smile, happy that you had accepted her apology so quickly.
"Well I'm sorry Jake, but it seems like you'll be stuck here with my family and I for a while. Cassie won't be able to get back from Atlantica for a few days. Since we have some time...." she starts...
