So, here you are. Tangled up like a children's birthday party balloon animal plus bound-and-gagged with masking tape, too. All while stuck in the bottom desk drawer of a high school science teacher with a German accent. As far away from the comfort and safety of your fiance Cassie as you could get. Not that you had wanted to go that far in the first place!
Instead, you sit there in near-total darkness waiting, with mixed feelings, for the three o'clock bell. But, suddenly, you hear another sound interrupting the maddening sounds of the interminable "tick-tocks" from the classroom clock. You're not 100% sure. But, you've watched enough cop shows on TV to be fairly certain that someone is picking the lock. And your hunch proves right as the bottom drawer suddenly slides open, blinding you with bright light! When your vision readjusts, however, you look up through the plastic baggie and behold...Sophie Smalls
Cassie's younger sister.
There's something strange, though. The young blonde woman is dressed like a marching band majorette! In her case, a purple blouse with gold epaulettes; a purple shako with yellow plume; a pleated white mini-skirt with matching go-go boots; and a baton for twirling. Naturally, you have a lot of questions! But, in your current condition, you're unable to ask them. Sophie, however, has the presence of mind to answer one of them.
"Shhh! Maggie sent me. I still look young enough, in my old majorette's outfit, to sneak in here and help you escape. I just had to wait until Miss HIlda went to turn off her car alarm. Seems like a soccer ball landed on the station wagon's roof hard enough to activate it!"
Whereupon, Sophie doffs the shako long enough to put you inside it; snorkel, baggie, and all. Then, she puts the shako back on, covering you up in darkness, once again.
