Peach stepped out into the cavernous chamber that housed the Thousand-Year Door, followed be Professor Frankly, and glanced around. There was no sign of Mario or Goombella, and she became even more worried.
"Professor, what could that chest have done to them?" she asked.
"Your guess is as good as mine, my dear. Perhaps there was another section in Goombella's textbook that explained it in greater detail, but Goombella had the book with her when she and Mario opened the chest." Frankly responded with a sigh.
"Well, we'll have to find another copy and research it for ourselves, then." Peach said, "Do you have any in your house?"
"I'm afraid not. That book is terribly out of date, and all the new editions remove that entire section." Frankly said, shaking his head. Peach gave a small groan and began to walk toward the chamber's exit.
"We're not going to get anything done standing around down here, let's get topside and see if we can find anything."
"Young lady, it's very late by now. I'm just as concerned for our friends as you are, but it would be best for us to get some rest before we begin our search."
Mario had been in some bizarre situations since his first arrival in Rogueport, but none could hold a candle to this. As he dangled over Peach's chest, still supported only by the few strands of hair that still remained in his grasp, he thought the scenario over. He could only hope that Goombella was relatively safe, as he had last seen her tumbling along in Peach's cleavage and disappearing into the interior of her dress. His thoughts were interrupted by the echoing sounds of Peach and Frankly's voices, magnified to a hundred times their usual volume. They were too deafening for him to make out words, and he only hoped that they would stop talking soon. Without any particular warning, Peach suddenly swung around and began to walk again, this time toward the chamber's exit. The last thing he wanted was to fall, but at the same time, he wondered whether it might be best to drop down and make sure that Goombella was unharmed in her current location, wherever that was. He pondered this for a moment, but one quick look downward was all it took for him to decide that he would be better off holding on.
Meanwhile, Goombella was finally beginning to relax. Having secured herself into a stable position on the edge of the giant princess's bra, she was fairly safe from the effects of her movement and could finally take some time to think about what she had read in her textbook. She thought back to every detail she could remember from the passage, but nothing with any discernible connection to her situation came to mind. The book had said nothing even loosely related to shrinking, and she doubted that she had missed anything else in her weeks of searching.
She was snapped out of her thought by a light suddenly appearing in the opening high above her head. It appeared that Peach had left the sewers and returned to the surface. A brief time later, she saw what looked like the ceiling of the Rogueport Inn miles above her. Watching the direction that Peach was moving in, she tried to determine where the princess was heading to. She saw Peach passing through a familiar doorway.
