A sound rang along the heavens at that moment, a sound that seemed to save Rukia from any more of Orihime’s affection, the school bell. Up front the teacher turned to her students, “Okay class, sit down now. Class is about to begin…” She eyed Orihime for a second, no doubt noting her shirt unbuttoned; but she didn’t say anything, at least…not aloud. She just turned her back to the class as they began sitting down.
Orihime let out a small, discontent sigh at the command, but she listened to her teacher and sat at her desk beside Tatsuki. Rukia, in contrast, let out a content sigh as she was freed from Orihime’s cheek. Saved by the bell…She chuckled, and who knows; maybe during the boring school day Orihime will notice Rukia isn’t a bug. She had her fingers crossed. When Orihime sat at her desk she placed Rukia near the corner, safely out of the way as she placed her pencils and papers in front of her. Rukia stared at the sharpened pencil with a mild sense of queasiness; it was like a blade at her size, and in the gigantic hands of a ditz like Orihime…a deadly blade.
For the umpteenth time the redhead didn’t catch the negative feelings though, she began whispering to her pet, “Okay Anty, I won’t get to talk to you during class, but don’t feel left out. I’ll make sure you have a good time!”
“I’d rather have a nap or something.” The small girl mumbled. Naturally Orhime didn’t hear her; but true to her word, she didn’t talk as the teacher, Misato Ochi. Mrs. Ochi began with some basic history lessons, lessons which Orihime began copying post-haste. The loud scribbling of her pencil drove Rukia a bit nuts, but it was better than dealing with Orihime’s unbelievably ditzy attitude. Not that Rukia had anything against Orhime, she just didn’t particularly enjoy conversations with a woman who could justify not only keeping an ant as a pet, but bringing it to school.
And the Ant just had to be me…Rukia slumped, deciding to sit down in the corner as she attempted to relax with Orihime looming beside her. Speaking of which, Rukia never really noticed before, but…Orihime was big. She knew the entire time of course, but with all the weird adventures going on she never had a good chance to measure it out. Orihime’s chest was about level with the desk, and Rukia honestly never saw anything quite that big. It looked like something that would take days, maybe even weeks to climb. Hell, the nipple alone would probably take days! She hugged her knees as more and more size comparisons made Rukia feel more and more puny.
-------------------------------------------------------
Orihime, meanwhile, smiled softly as her pencil wrote out her notes. With her innocent eyes she exchanged looks with, the teacher’s lesson, her notes on the lesson, and of course her pet ant. She could see it in the corner, sitting still, almost like it was a person acting depressed.
Poor Anty…I should really do something for her…The redhead caught a glance of her pencil and got an idea…
-----------------------------------------------------------
BOOM
A loud crash started Rukia, who, amidst her depression, was on the verge of sleep. She jumped up to the sight of a grayish black mountain right in front of her, with edges as sharp as daggers. It was the edges that told Rukia what is was, not even ten minutes ago she was worried Orihime might try something with it, it was pencil lead!
She looked up to the gigantic redhead smiling down at her, “Don’t be upset Anty, you can play with that while I do my school work…We can do notes together!” She carefully whispered. To avoid suspicion she quickly rose back up and focused on school work again, but Orihime gave extra glances to her ant.
Rukia stared at the lead mountain with a blank face, “Only Orihime could think exchanging notes with an ant makes sense. I’d rather write a note to get her attention…” A light bulb lit up when she said that.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Several Minutes Later…
Writing a note was a lot harder than Rukia thought, it took a good five minutes alone to get a sizable chunk of lead she could use, despite the fact it made her hands completely gray; and she was still working on writing a single line. Damn desks…why don’t they let students write on these anymore…! The shrunken girl complained. At her size a note to Orihime already seemed ludicrous, but the desk was hardly showing anything at all, it was all faded and hard to see.
“It’ll have to do…” Rukia sighed, starting the next line.
It took ages to actually get anything written, in fact, a couple hours passed before Rukia managed to finish Orihime’s name. Not just because of her height, but because Rukia had to make the letters absolutely enormous. Because if they weren’t lines as thick as Rukia herself, or as big as herself, then it might as well be invisible; at least with this there was a mild chance of success.
The rest of class proceeded like that, Orihime didn’t seem to want to interrupt her frantically working ant; and luck finally gave Rukia a break too. There was no gym today and Mrs. Ochi was responsible for the other classes, long story short, Orihime would stay at that one desk, giving Rukia plenty of time to write. And when Lunch came around, another stroke of luck, Orihime didn’t bring luck, so she didn’t make any moves that could compromise Rukia. Tatsuki and Chizuru arrived and began chatting the girl away, but they gave Rukia no mind at all, mainly because she was an ant, mildly because Orihime asked them to. That was perhaps the luckiest thing Rukia had happen to her since shrinking.
When Lunch ended the rest of the day proceeded like the rest before it, nothing special. Rukia was nearing the end of her note, but it was also nearing the end of school. She picked up the pace as fast as she could. And by some miracle, when the clock hit three, Rukia finished.
It was small, maybe a thumb wide at best, but it was at least visible. Rukia eyed what appeared to be a plain of text, “Orihime im rukia not an ant!!!” In retrospect, the exclamations weren’t necessary, but it made Rukia feel better. It left no time for correct grammar, though it didn’t really matter. The tiny girl prayed the goddess-sized Orihime would notice it.
The bell began to ring, school was over…
(Note to readers. In case it isn't crystal clear, the second option also means Orihime does NOT see the note. Tatsuki's hand blocks it)
