"Your leaving now?" Kenji asked.
"Probably after I get lunch...Wherever we're going..." You said.
"Kumiko says she knows a place...Best ramen in the Land of Fire..." Kenji said.
"Best ramen in the Land?...Can't wait..." You responded.
After the two of you finished bathing and relaxing, you waited a bit until Kumiko was finished. She then led you all to a small ramen shop, with only a single row of stools for seating. The shop had two other patrons, one of them you already met, Kakashi Hatake. The other patron you have yet to meet. He has medium skin, dark eyes, dark brown hair in a ponytail and a face scar across his face and the bridge of his nose. The two men seemed to be eating and talking with one another.
"It's hard to believe that he's not here anymore eating ramen with me like the good old days...I hope he's doing okay..." The unidentified shinobi said to Kakashi.
"Don't worry about him...Master Jiraiya is doing more than just training him...Besides, you and I know that he can handle himself in a fight..." Kakashi said back.
"Talking about one of your students?" You asked Kakashi as you grabbed a seat.
"Yes, I am...Sonsho, was it?"
You nod to confirm.
"Well anyway, he's one hell of a kid...Just when you think he's hit a wall, he smashes through it...Ain't that right Iruka?" Kakashi asked.
"You can say that again...He's too stubborn and determined to be stopped...He refuses to accept his limits...Shattering them in his efforts to become the village's strongest ninja...You just may be the Hokage one day...Naruto..." Iruka said.
"Naruto? Your student's named after a bridge?" You asked.
"No...That bridge is named after him..." Kakashi clarified.
"Isn't Naruto named after 'Narutomaki' like served in ramen?" Kumiko asked.
"I believe so..." Kakashi acknowledged.
"That's what I've figured...Might explain why he's one of my best customers...Speaking of customers, looks like we have some new ones...Hello there, and welcome to Ichiraku Ramen...Have a look at our menu and let us know when you've reached a decision...I'm Teuchi by the way...Owner and founder of this place...and I'm sure you've noticed my lovely daughter, Ayame..." Teuchi said, pointing to the young woman in the kitchen with him.
"Father, please...You're embarrassing me..." Ayame said as she blushed.
"Welp! Our good friend here says this is the best ramen in all the Land of Fire, so I'm a bit hyped up!" Kenji said, hand on Kumiko's shoulder.
"Oh, really now?...You've been here before, young lady?" Teuchi asked.
"When I was very young...Before I lost my family..." Kumiko said.
"Oh, dear...I'm sorry for your loss...How 'bout a batch of onigiri for you and your friends...My treat..." Teuchi asked.
"Your onigiri are the best...That sounds perfect, thank you..." Kumiko thanked.
After the three of you ordered, you were served some of the best ramen you have ever eaten.
"Mmmmm! This might just be the best ramen I've had in my entire life!" You said as you were eating.
"The noodles are perfection! The broth is absolutely delicious! Everything about this is amazing!" Kenji also said through eating.
"Mmmmm...This brings back good memories..." Kumiko said as she too was eating.
"Ha ha ha...I'm glad you three like it..." Teuchi said with a smile.
"I don't know how you and Sensei could leave a place with such amazing ramen..." You said.
"You and your Sensei were both from here?" Kakashi asked Kumiko.
"Originally, yes...In fact he's actually my older cousin. Him and my elder cousin were very close friends as well..."
"Really? How old is your Sensei?" Iruka asks.
"Hmmm...I'd say around Ayame's age..." Kenji said.
"My age?...Is he powerful? Is he handsome...Is he single?" Ayame asked.
"Yes, yes and yes...Though he probably won't return here for his own protection...Unless of course he's disguised..." You said.
"What's his name?" She asked.
"Can't say his true name, but he's known by the public as Ten Hokkyokusei...However...We do have a picture with him in it after we passed the exams and became Chunin...He's in disguise though, so people won't recognize him..." Kenji said as he shows the picture of the three of you, holding your brand new flak jackets, and your Sensei, disguised so well, that he looks like a total stranger to the three of you.
"Ooo! Nice scars...Bet he has some exciting stories about them..." Ayame said. "If he ever wants to return like this, let him know I'd be more than happy to show him around town..."
"I'll be sure to let Sensei know..." Kumiko said.
"I'm gonna need at least a dozen more orders...Maybe with some variety..." You said to the owner.
"Sounds like someone's extremely hungry..." Teuchi said.
"No, I'm full, but i'm gonna need a bunch of these ramen bowls as ration pills..." You explained.
"I don't know how to make ration pills, much less my ramen into them." Teuchi said.
"That's what Hyorogan Scrolls are for..." You said.
"Hyorogan Scroll? Never heard of that before...What about you, Kakashi?" Iruka asks.
"Nope! Never heard of it..." Kakashi admitted.
I'm not surprised...My uncle, the Bakikage invented them back when me and Kenji were in the academy...Basically, it's a Ninjutsu Scroll that immerses food into food pills through the use of chakra...Maintaining their taste and flavor...He's been improving it so much over the years that even everyday people can use them...Here, I'll show you!" You said as you pulled a Hyorogan Scroll and laid it out on the counter top and placed an onigiri in the middle of it. Activating the scroll, the onigiri began levitating and revolving in a rapid manner, immersing the food into a puree and condensing the mass into a food pill, about the size of a dumpling, with a slick black coating. You stopped the scroll from continuing to compress it, leaving it floating in the air above the scroll for you to grab. "I stopped it from compressing so I could shave off some bites for everyone..." You then sprung out a kunai from your sleeve and shaved a thin chip off and offered it to Teuchi.
Teuchi looked at the strange shaving, smelled it, and then placed it into his mouth. Gently chewing the morsel, he couldn't believe it. It's texture may be strange and melt in his mouth, but the taste is like the perfect bite of his handmade onigiri.
"This is incredible! It's like a perfect bite of my onigiri melting in my mouth! And this'll work with any food?" He asked.
"Yep! Technically, you don't have to even cook the food to make them, but since the scroll only applies a physical change, any flavors associated with chemical changes won't appear when used...On the plus side, that also eliminates oxidation, drastically increasing it's shelf life...It also eliminates any pathogens while sparing probiotics...Would you two like to try?" You asked Kakashi and Iruka.
"Sure."
"Sounds good!"
You slice two more morsels for the two older ninjas, and tossed them for them to catch. Iruka simply popped it into his mouth, while Kakashi gently pulled open the top of his mask and let the morsel fall into his shrouded mouth.
"Mmmmm...This is unbelievable..." Iruka said.
"I wish we had this back when I was in the Anbu..." Kakashi said.
"May I try?" Ayame asked.
"Sure!" You said as you shave another piece off and offered it to her.
"Mmmmm...This would make an amazing snack!" She said.
"They actually have that back in Hagakure, and the rest of the Land of Blades...But, if you need it to be a bit more portable, you can not only further reduce it, but divide it down into smaller granules for calorie control..." You placed the ball back in order for it to float and then slammed it down onto the scroll, only for it to break up into a cluster of smaller spheres.
"Calorie control? Sounds right up my alley!" Ayame said.
"Why do you need so many food pills?" Kumiko asked.
"Well...We've got over a week to kill, so I'm gonna use it to test out my Jutsu." You responded.
"Seriously? I can show you around town and all you want to do is test out that dumb jutsu?" Kumiko questioned.
"Don't worry Kumiko, I shouldn't be gone for more than five days, still enough time to explore your old hometown."
After Teuchi and his daughter Ayame gradually brought out your orders, you explained to them how to work a Hyorogan Scroll and let them actually use it for themselves to try. Once it was all said and done, you had sufficient food supplies for your simple bet to occur in case of an emergency or accident.
"I can't believe that it's possible to change any food into a food pill nowadays...Wish I had a scroll like that..." Teuchi said.
"Tell you what, you can have it if you give me a discount on my to-go orders..." You said.
"Trying to skip out on paying are you?" He said in a stern manner.
"No, but think about it...With a scroll like this, you can further expand your market of customers...You know that Anbu get mad money, so why not better serve their needs?" You explained.
"The kid has a point, Teuchi...If you want, I could use my connections with the Anbu to make them aware...Believe it or not, practically all of them are customers of yours anyway..." Kakashi brought up.
"Plus, food pills are perfect for people on-the-go. You could leave it in your mouth and let your saliva slowly feed it to you with every gulp!...Plus, Hyorogan Scrolls are fairly expensive, about the price of most appliances, so..." You were saying.
"Alright, I'll bite...I'll knock off three of the bowls off of your order..." He said.
"Deal!" You said as you handed over the Hyorogan Scroll. "See you two later..." You said as you went down to Fairyfly size and flew above the buildings to head back to the Academy building, slipping through the small gaps in doors to head on over to the Hokage's office. On the way up, you see Sakura en route to your destination, so you took advantage of it by landing on her clavicle and taking a ride.
