"This is...fascinating."
"I just found him like this after I killed that spirit."
"I think he likes kinda cute like this!"
Mikiya Kokuto cleared his throat nervously, "Um...guys. Can you back up a little bit? All your faces this close is kind of making me uncomfortable."
The three women, Touko, Azaka, and Shiki, all backed up respectively. The space brought some much needed relief. Mikiya was tense but he couldn't help but imagine how ridiculous the scene must look to an outsider. All four of them were inside of the Hall of Monastery, Touko's Supernatural Detective Agency, which looked like little more than a heavily disorganized office with papers scattered everywhere. There three beautiful girls, Touko, Azaka, and Shiki respectfully, were each staring intently at a desk that looked completely empty. As Mikiya looked back at each girl he could see the difference in their stares. Touko looked like her mind was running at full speed to process everything. Azaka looked oddly happy given the circumstances. And Shiki...well her expression was hard to read, but Mikiya had the feeling she was concerned. Of course what would they all be staring at? Well Mikiya of course. To an outsider he was nowhere to be seen, but if everyone was talking to a desk that would mean he was at the desk. And he was. Sitting as a shrunken speck on top of a wooden desk sat the young man, nervously looking back at three giants.
"Kokuto, can you explain to us how this happened?" Touko asked.
Mikiya sighed, "I already told you guys. You sent Shiki out to clear out a group of ghosts behind some kidnappings, I happened to run into the scene just as one was about to hit her. I took the hit-"
"Which was dumb by the way." Shiki rudely interrupted."
Mikiya didn't react, "-I passed out, next thing I knew I was staring at the treads of Shiki's boots. If she didn't notice me I think I'd be done for right now." He smiled thankfully at the stoic giantess. She averted her gaze without changing expression.
Touko sighed, pulling a cigarette from her breast pocket. "That doesn't help me much. Size magic isn't something I'm familiar with, much less when it involves spirits so I'm not too sure how to handle this." She pulled out a lighter and began to light it.
"But at least you're safe with us now Mikiya! You've never looked cuter either!" Azaka smiled down at her brother. "Until we get you fixed you can be like the office pet."
"Thanks but no thanks Azaka. I'm sure Touko will have me fixed up in no time."
"If anything else at least you're alive." Shiki nonchalantly added.
In response to his giant friend Mikiya just laughed, "True. I can't complain much about the view either. Seeing you like this is just...something else." His voice seemed to drag off and expose some deeper feelings, but no one reacted to them. Well, almost no one.
"How do I look Nii-san?" Azaka stepped between Mikiya and his oggling of Shiki. "Huh?" Her face went dangerously close to him, close enough he could make out his reflection in her pupils.
"Uh...You look more adorable than ever Azaka." Came his nervous reply.
Azaka backed off, clearly not fully satisfied with what she heard. Mikiya could only tilt his head and ponder what was upsetting her.
Silent during all this talk, Touko had walked over to the office window with her cigarette. "It's important you stay positive Kokutou, there is a good chance you'll be like this for a little while." Her surprisingly blunt statement silenced everyone and drew attention, "At the moment your size is somewhere around half an inch high. We're going to have to be extra careful around her to compensate for that. But this is all under the assumption that your condition won't change anytime in the future. For all we know time might just bring you back to normal, or it could get worse..." Her voice trailed off as she put out her cigarette in an ash tray. "...I'm not one to usually make promises when dealing with the unknown but..." The woman raised her head and smiled softly, "But I'll promise you I'll give you my best assistance."
"Me too!" Azaka immediately added.
Their confident words brought a smile to Mikiya's face. To the side stood Shiki absent mindedly staring out a window. He knew she felt the same as the others.
"With that established..." Touko continued, "It's starting to get late and I think after this we would all like some rest. But first we need to work out who's going to watch over you. At your size you'll need a guardian of some sort. "
"Guardian?"
Touko nodded, "Someone to make sure you'll be okay. Take care of you, those sort of things. I'll have to take a pass for tonight because I need to get some tests ready for tomorrow so that'll leave either Azaka or Shiki."
"Ooh! Me!" Happy as ever Azaka raised a hand like a child and volunteered herself.
Shiki of course, remained silent.
Ignoring both of them, Touko looked straight at Mikiya. "Small or not you're still a person Kokutou so I'll let you pick who it is that'll watch over you." Both Azaka and Shiki didn't seem to like that idea but they remained silent.
Mikiya stared at the two choices he had. On one hand was his sister Azaka, friendly, sure to take care of him. But something about being alone with her at this size scared him...he wasn't sure why. On the other hand there was Shiki. She cared for him but her blunt nature among other things made it impossible to imagine how that would go. But despite that Mikiya remembered his feelings for the girl and the idea of her caring for him was appealing.
"I choose..."
