Daniel the Dentist. I'm sorry, the DENTIST???? Everybody Likes That Little Man! chapter 2 by Paok

"You, like... That little man? The tiny Dentist?" The annoyed woman eyed him up and down. But there wasn't much up or down for her to eye. Because Daniel, her dentist for today... was a tiny, at just 1mm tall.

He stood on the vast metal tray, and looked up at her quizzical, uncomfortable expression. "Yep," he spoke into the microphone, his gravelly voice repeating over the light muzak. "Nice to meet you Alexandra. The hygienist here will lift me up." The woman furrowed her brow even further.

Daniel had achieved his DDS just 1 year ago, from a highly competitive Dental school in California. Despite all odds, and the doubts of his larger-sized peers, he achieved unheard-of test scores, and performed exceptionally well in his practicums and internships. He received glowing recommendations from every teacher who ever had the pleasure of teaching him. On paper, he was an absolutely excellent up-and-coming dentist. 

There was just one problem. He was tiny. There were obvious problems that this posed. But he didn't care. This was his passion. The federal ban on tinies working certain jobs, like dentistry, was only lifted 5 years ago. And he chomped at the bit to get his education and training - he even enrolled in a pre-dentistry program before the ban lifted. 

Wait, why would the ban be lifted? Did the government decide to stop caring about worker safety?

And why would anyone choose to see a tiny dentist, given the obvious potential problems? Are patients under anesthesia for every visit?

Wouldn't a tiny dentist visit take way, way longer to than a normal one?

Wouldn't the insurance liability for a tiny dentist be orders of magnitude higher than for a normal one?

Hell, wouldn't concern for being sexually assaulted without even knowing it be a concern that patients might have?

How are a tiny dentist's tools manufactured anyway? Surely we can't precision manufacture things that tiny in a cost effective way, especially if there are so few tiny dentists. And are we talking about tiny hygienists or dentists? Dentists don't usually do the cleaning. For a cleaning, the Dentist comes in and looks for cavities at the end. Actually, wouldn't being tiny make it a little harder to be a Dentist, since you couldn't see all the teeth at once? I guess assessing the individual cavities would be easier. But drilling and filling them would be a very time-consuming chore. Hell, it could literally take hours. And is the patient supposed to be under anesthesia for all that, to avoid the obvious? How would they clean the patient's mouth of spit, anyway, would the Dentist have to leave the mouth every time before they used the suction tool? How many tiny Dentists die a year? Surely there are other countries where this was allowed, so surely we know how dangerous it is, so why did the government lift the ban?
