It had been a few minutes before Blake could open his eyes after his ordeal. It felt as if his organs had turned to mush. He saw a portly woman in navy blue overalls standing over him. Blake was suddenly raked by the bristles of a broom, each stroke carving a line onto his tired body. Blake was shuffled across the ground. He couldn't even move, because all his energy had been sapped. He was collected into a dustpan and then into a refuse bag. He had become dirt. The pain Blake had endured up until now finally took its toll, and Blake lost consciousness, just before he was tossed into a garbage truck.
