Tagging Along
Small Bargain - Definitive Edition
Chapter 3
Blake jumped on Aria's leg, and landed on her thigh. He was busy getting up, when he was suddenly knocked onto the floor.
As Aria was eating, she startled as something jumped on her. She hurriedly wiped the bug away without so much as looking at it, and returned to her lunch.
Blake had hit the ground hard. His increased strength and durability was the only thing that had kept him from breaking his skull on the tiled floor. He waited for the pain from the fall to lessen. When it had faded, he climbed onto the tip of Aria's shoe and waited. Once Aria started walking, he hoped to hitch a ride on her shoe to somewhere safe, where he could rest, and figure out how to get closer to Aria. As he sat in thought, he felt a little wobbling as Aria stood up, and then he was thrown forward as she started walking. He almost fell off her shoe, but managed to grab hold of the inside of Aria's shoe. Then he experienced a short period of stability as Aria took a step with her other foot, and was thrown forward again, on and on in a cycle which turned Blake's stomach. It didn't help that the world passed in a nauseating blur with each motion. Eventually, the tumbling stopped. Blake found himself under a desk. He looked up at the office chair Aria was sitting on, and at the desk's edge next to him. He shimmied up the desk until he could pull himself onto the desk. Aria was busily working on her computer, her hands moving rapidly across the keyboard, her face set in concentration, her emerald eyes flicking left and right as she read her screen.
This was the closest that Blake had come to Aria. It delighted him to gaze upon Aria's beauty up close, to see every detail up close. Yet, he was determined to get her attention, so he went over to the keyboard and called Aria's name. No response. He tried again. Still nothing. So he stepped onto the keyboard. Aria's hands whizzed past him and threatened to knock him into the air with one swipe. He stood on the Numpad, and jumped around on the keys. 7, 8, 6, 3, 0, he pressed random keys, hoping Aria wwould hear the keys moving or notice numbers appearing on her screen and look down. After a moment, Aria paused, and looked at Blake. Aria pinched Blake between her fingers and lifted him up. She brought him close to her face, frowning in confusion. She scrutinised him for a long time, then set him back down on the desk.
