Worn Rest and Unaware Introductions Surviving on Short Notice chapter 9 by deleted_user

You were tired.

No...scratch that. Make that exhausted! Physically, mentally, and damned near emotionally....

Ever since you had been tricked into those experiments by your own desperate need to get by, you had been subjected to so much!

Now THIS?! How you hadn't been driven insane by it all! You felt like you wanted to scream, but were too drained for it!

Trapped on this otherwise unremarkable housepet's body like some flea, the only ways off of the slumbering labrador retriever being too risky, you were worn out, hungry, and above all, scared out of your mind!

Falling backwards onto the khaki skin of the dog, you wept, not caring about the overwhelming sense of self-pity or how pathetic it might look—NOT LIKE ANYONE ELSE WOULD SEE OR HEAR YOU, ANYWAYS!TOO INSIGNIFICANT FOR THAT!—and kept crying until your tears ducts were dry and your eyes puffy, swollen, and red. Absently, you felt yourself trembling all over. Nerves and emotions leaving your body wired.

Heh...your body...you almost laughed at that. This wasn't actually your body. Didn't look like you, didn't feel like you, yet you were still aware that it was yours...

Feeling the 'ground' underneath you rising and falling with the gigantic dog's breathing, feeling the warmth of the skin under you and the fur around you like a stifling blanket, your eyes started to feel heavy with your worm state.

Maybe...maybe you could afford a rest, a break...something! Maybe just stay here and wait for the dog's owner to awaken?

Yes...your weariness almost hissed in your ears, let yourself go...let yourself rest...what was the harm? It was already late. Not like your situation could be able to get much worse, sleep wouldn't hurt you...

As much as you tried to fight it, your eyes drooped and felt your exhaustion shut your body off.

******

"CASSIE! COME HERE GIRL, COME TO MAMA CARRIE!"

The booming thunder of a voice called out, jerking you awake from a restless, nightmarish-filled slumber.

For all of one glorious, hopeful moment, you assumed that everything you had gone through thus far had been naught but a dream. A hope that a quick look around you shattered.

NO! It had been real?! All of it?!

Then everything else registered. Huh? Cassie? Carrie? Who were...?

Oh.

You realize that you had barely recognized the voice. The dog's owner. That giantess whom had unknowingly saved you from the clutches of Doctor Evelyn Wright...

So her name was "Carrie"? That had to make it so that Cassie was the name of the labrador retriever, then. Well, as good as it was to know that, it was still meaningless information to you. Not without the ability to communicate, anyway. You felt the THUDs of Cassie's movement as the dog heeded the call of her owner, the quakes rattling the rest of the proverbial cobwebs from your skull and you allowed yourself to fully recognize your situation and surroundings.

You ended up gawking in shock as you saw that...
