The Master Bedroom

Evelyn fiddled with the tube as she sat on her bed, twisting and twirling it while her tiny passenger twisted and twirled helplessly in kind. This was a decision that required diligent planning; the contents of the glass tube she held was valuable and the last of its kind - not something you just toss out carelessly. So what, then? Keep it? It will need feeding and water. She wasn't in the mood for any more dependents... Kill it? She was certainly leaning in that direction, but the fact it could be years before she makes this progress again gave her pause.

The decision was proving too hard, and the sound of approaching footsteps meant she had to act fast. She pulled opened the drawer in her bedside table and quickly tossed you in. The drawer was shoved closed, sealing you in darkness before you could fully take in your new surroundings. Outside, you could hear Dr. Wright talking to what sounded like a girl's voice.

"Mom, what are we doing for dinner?"

Dr. Wright took a moment to respond. She had a lot on her mind without worrying about making dinner for her kids. "Your dad is working late tonight so I'm thinking we order pizza."

"I was gonna ask if it's cool if I go over to Dan's for dinner..."

"Sarah," Dr Wright began with a sigh, "we've talked about making plans with Dan before asking me. You can't bail on dinner with family."

"Dad's not even here!" Sarah's response came with equal parts venom and frustration. "And you're ordering pizza, mom, its not like you're preparing a four course meal!"

Evelyn realised two things in that moment:

1 - The fewer people home tonight, the better. Ben will likely stay in his room all evening, and with Ray at work and Sarah at Dan's, it gives her free reign to deal with her tiny problem.

2 - She really, really didn't have the energy to argue with a teenager right now.

"Alright." she said in faux surrender. "Have it your way - but you're not staying the night! I want you back by ten."

Sarah left without response, or at least not one that you could hear. You didn't hear anything in fact as the room fell totally silent. Was Dr Wright even there anymore?
