Dook! Dook! Dook!

It's here.

At least, that was the first thing I'd think anytime the door was knocked since I'd placed the order, but now, it was the honest truth.

The mailman was just taking off when I'd opened the door, driving down the street with nothing for me to sign or check out. But sure enough, a small white box sat on the welcome mat, safely perched far enough from the door that it wouldn't get hit when it was swung open. Instantly I could tell what it was, either by giddy instinct or the telltale airholes punched into the sides. "Friggin' Finally!"

But as happy as I was, it took a great amount of willpower to resist snatching the box and running up to his room in a mad frenzy, instead opting to slowly crouch down and carefully lift it off the ground. Ducking back inside, I took great care not to shake the box around too much as I lurched up the steps toward my room.

Especially with the small, whispered movements that I could feel from the box' contents...

In my office, I gently set the box on the desk and slid out a pair of scissors from my pen cup. Sitting down, focusing all my clear gaze on the tape sealing the flap, I hit the peak of my finger-sensitive care and opened the scissor's by a tiny peck, worming the tips into the tape and snipping a bit of the way through. A few more snips and I made it halfway, but the anticipation finally got the best of me and I pried the flap apart, tearing the tape the rest of the way through.

I didn't immediately look into the box. It went silent once it was opened, and for a moment I feared I'd hurt whatever was inside, but too my surprise and relief, with a small rustle, the box managed to tip on its own and fell onto its side.

A tiny, grey leg shyly stepped out of the box' mouth first, and the rest of the creature shuffled out when it felt the warmth of the room. Its tiny footsteps on the wood were accompanied by a cute, meager clip clop, fitting looked the part of some sort of really tiny equine with light gray fur and a pastel yellow mane, save for a pair of feathery wings folded against its sides.

She just took a few moments to walk around, getting a feeling from the circle on the desk that was lit by the reading lamp. I didn't do anything, instead completely amazed by merely watching her move about, curiously interacting with the little trinkets on my desk, like she were seeing them for the first time.

But soon enough she finally noticed me looking down at her, and she stopped dead in her tracks, a hoof still raised in the air. Now I could see her eyes, which were bright gold and adorably wonked away from one another in opposite directions. Neither of them met me in the eye for a single moment, but she nonetheless turned around and sat down on her haunches, smiling obediently at me, like she could see me anyway.

Oh, god... I took my hand off my lap and brought it over her back, gently stroking her soft, smooth fur along the back of her neck and down her back. She didn't shy away, and actually seemed to enjoy being petted, but my heart wasn't the least bit prepared for when she hugged my fingers as tight as she could with her front legs, lovingly scratching her cheek across my palm, and immediately melted away in my chest. OH MY GOD!!!

At the falter in my petting rhythm, the new kitten-sized pegasus lowered down and sprung back up, flapping her wings so she fluttered through the air and buzzed up onto my shoulder, clinging to my shirt as she hung over my back.

"What am I gonna call you?" I mulled aloud. "...hmm...would 'Derpy' be to cruel?"

She, or should I say, Derpy didn't refuse. She actually smiled, like she approved.

"Well, how about some lunch, Derpy?" I offered, getting up and heading for the door. Derpy stayed clung to my shoulder the entire trip to the kitchen, but it was only just when I'd entered that I realized I had no idea what she could eat. "...huh."

Maybe some fruit would do the trick.

But when I opened the door to te fridge, Derpy suddenly went completely stiff when she peered inside, her eyes going wide and pointing straight inside.

"Derpy? What's up?"

Derpy leapt over my shoulder and, with Olympic-level finesse dove through the air and into a muffin on a plate with her mouth open wide. In just a few seconds Derpy tore through the entire muffin, eradicating it off the face of the Earth and sitting alone on the plate, victoriously rubbing her ballooned belly.

"...woah." I whistled.

.....

"Well that should just about do it."

I''d arranged a cardboard box on my desk with a large section of one wall cut out, allowing Derpy to see my bed from inside. I'd laid out a pillow for her to sleep on, which she immediately took an enjoyment for bouncing around on, along with a bowl of water taped to one wall and a plastic dish sitting outside next to a hole cut out.

"G'night, Derpy!" I beckoned, petting her on the head. Turning off the light, I managed to find my bed in the dark and slid under the cover, shutting my eyes and awaiting the embrace of sleep.

...but I hadn't yet fallen asleep when I felt a small creature jump onto the mattress and pronk up to my pillow, four tiny hooves stepping onto my face and curling up on top of my forehead, a tail gently laying over my eyes...
