When Penny finally made her choice, she already felt as though she'd taken too long deliberating. A potential savior was right outside her door waiting on a response!
Penny gulped. She may have been the exact antonym of "fit" in the dictionary, but desperate times called for desperate measures. And while she wasn't a jock, she was analytical enough to decide on a soft spot of floor she could jump in. In this case, it happened to be a pile of dirty t-shirts and blouses she hadn't gotten around to washing yet. They didn't smell all that bad individually, but in aggregate they were starting to ripen the place up.
Oh well; better the devil you know. Penny took a running leap, which was more like a limp jog, and she jumped.
"AIIEEEEE!!" Penny had been hoping for a swan dive, but ended up getting a far less majestic, far more flaily motion. She landed in the clothes with a muffled "OOMPH," and popped her head out to evaluate her surroundings. "No bones broken... success!" She pumped her fist.
"Penny...!? Are you going to open the door or not?"
Penny was wracking her brain. Where on Earth had she heard that voice before? Whoever it was, they must've needed her bad. This was good; it lessened the chance they would leave her hanging.
Penny had almost reached the door when she noticed one of her Eeveelutions had made its way back to the foyer--Jolteon. The thunder creature had appeared so quickly Penny didn't notice it, only realizing when she felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. While on the chair it was easy to still think of her beloved pets as just that: pets. But at this height, the way her own Pokemon dwarfed her made Penny's heart thump. Jolteon only beheld her from a distance and with idle curiosity, but it was clear the creature could devour her in one gulp with its little lupine muzzle. Hopefully it never got that idea.
Anyway, Penny took a long, hard look at the crevice underneath the door. She could make out the soles of a pair of shoes, but beyond that it was impossible to tell who they belonged to. Buuuut, it was without a doubt a large enough gap for her to squeeze through if she laid down on her belly. What'll it be?
