After some discussion, it was eventually decided that Lillie was to take care of the shrunken Lana. Despite having no personal connection to Lana’s situation, or having anywhere permanent to stay.
”I feel responsible for her! This was an Aether Corporation mistake, so I should take care of her until the machine is fixed!
”Shouldn’t your mom take care of her then?” Mallow said.
”Mother’s… too busy.” Lillie mumbled. “But it’s okay! It’s just for a little while! Right, Faba?”
”Mmngh,” Fana grumbled. “That all depends, Miss Lillie. I’d need to first figure out what went wrong…”
”Hm!” Lillie put her hands on her hips, but then remembered that Lana was in one of them. “Ohh! Sorry…! W-well, please try to fix it as soon as possible, Faba!”
Faba just muttered something noncommittal, and Lillie suddenly had to be responsible for a lot more than herself. With a three inch tall Lana in her hand, she made the short journey home, namely in Professor Kukui’s attic. With little food and no privacy, it was far from an appropriate temporary home for two awkward tweens. But choices had been made, and Lana had to deal with it for at least a day or two.
“It’s um, nice in here.” Lana smiled in an attempt at conversation.
“Mhmm! There’s lots of fish Pokémon to watch! So I thought maybe you’d find that… interesting?”
”Well I do like fish Pokemon!” Lana smiled. “It’s a real shame I can’t go fishing any more, though. Not like this…”
”Hmm. Well, they’re here for you if you want to see them.” Lillie smiled down at Lana, just sat awkwardly on her waist. “I um, I’m sorry there’s not much to do.”
”Don’t worry about it!” Lana giggled. “I can look at fish for days!”
Standing up, she felt the gentle purchase of Lillie’s waist underfoot. The elegant teen’s golden bangs cascading down towards her like a waterfall, she felt weirdly at home in this attic, but it wasn’t without its problems.
”So um, where do I sleep?”
And Lillie’s face dropped. Clearly she hadn’t thought that far ahead. “Well um…”
