In the nick of time

Regret was surging through Gloria as the well crumbled beneath her, and she was victim to gravity’s whims.

 

There was the scramble of arms in a vain attempt to avoid her fate, but it was someone else’s hands that saved her.

 

”Gotcha!” A strong grip seized her by the ankle. “Whoo! You nearly fell!”

 

Dangling helplessly amongst the ominous crimson glow, Gloria couldn’t help the embarrassment. Not only was she the idiot that fell down a well, but now she was hanging by one leg, and everything she had was on show to her saviour. 

If she knew this was going to happen, she would’ve worn jeans or something. 

“Okay, disaster averted!” The voice above cried. “Right, now if you’d just give us your other leg…”

 

”Uhh…?” Gloria frowned. That would make things easier, she supposed. Whoever they were, they sounded

familiar at least.

 

”Right…” They called down to her. “Work with me here, we’re gonna get real acquainted, you hear?”

 

Arms wrapping around either leg, they coordinated one effort at a time, hauling her closer. 

Thighs squashed against chest, she now understood what they meant by ‘acquainted’, and felt more self conscious than ever. 

Two arms weaved around her back for better grip. “One last tug, and we’re safe. Ya with me?”

 

Gloria gulped. Whoever was buried about her middle, she owed them. That was until…
