You had only been here for about an hour, but so far you loved every thing that the resort had to offer. There was nothing more that you wanted to do than set up a home on this island, and being able to afford such a thing meant that you needed to start making money, and fast. Seeing no better options, you made your way towards the skyscraper which loomed over the district, large neon letters spelling out the name "Transformative Industries" near the top of the building, letting everyone know how large of a corporation they were, and not afraid to tell the world about it.
You made your way through the doors of the building, into the grandiose lobby which did the company justice. It was modern themed, so a lot of corners and lights, however you still felt something was up about the place. Nonetheless you made your way to the receptionist, an intelligent looking woman wearing glasses. Her brown hair was down to her neck, as she turned up to address the visitor who had made their way into the office.
"Hi there sir, how may we help you today?" She asked, looking at you with a slight smile.
"Hey, I was just wondering if you guys had any job openings? I'm looking for some work, I just can't get enough of this island ya know?" You replied warmly, trying to be open towards the stranger who might soon become a coworker.
"Hmmm, I don't really think that's within my jurisdiction to just hand out jobs, but I can get you in a meeting with someone higher up. How does that sound?" She asked as you nodded, thinking on how dumb she was to say that. Of course you didn't think that a receptionist would be able to give you employment, but you didn't say anything because you still wanted her to get you that meeting with the higher ups that she had been promising. "Alright, just sign here and I'll call you up whenever somebody is available." She said cheerfully before bending under the desk to pick up what you presumed to be a pen.
When she set it down in front of your hands however, it was something much more macabre. As opposed to a normal writing utensil, it was simply a tied up shrunken woman, with her hair shaved and head coated in ink. Even this was a little too much for you, despite having a little woman banging on the walls in your gut at the time, but you still signed in your name, and sat down on one of the large cushions facing. a fish tank, waiting to be called up. You looked closely at the fish tank, seeing that the occupants weren't traditional fish as you'd expect, but rather tiny mermaids swimming around.
As you watched the little sea creatures roam around their glass home, time went by, and eventually after an hour or so the receptionist started calling for one "Jonathan Gillerson" something you took as meaning it was time to go interview. You followed her into the elevator, watching as it rocketed up the many floors, getting off on floor 75, where you were escorted down a set of cubicles towards an office in the rear. The receptionist held the door for you as you entered, quickly leaving and allowing the door to shut behind you. There sat a man wearing a suit in front of a large glass window, giving you an amazing view of the entire island behind him, it was breathtaking from this height.
"Please, sit down." He instructed, to which you obeyed, sitting across from him at the mahogany desk.
"Hello sir, I'm Jonathan Gillerson, and I have to say I'm in love with this island. I'd like to pursue a career here full time, if that's ok." You said to him, trying to initiate the meeting. He simply looked at you in a strange way, as though he was trying to assess what you might be good at.
"Jonathan, I'm gonna be straight with you. This island can make you billions, and every mystical dream that you may have. But it can also break you. No where else is it so easy to make fifty million dollars in a day, or end up spending the rest of your life as some kind of living body part on a stranger. What I'm trying to say is that this island isn't for everyone. If you want a job, we have an opening. But be warned, there is no quitting once you get started. This is your home, and after you sign the contract we're allowed to track you down and take you back, even on the mainland. This isn't a light decision." He said, giving you an honest answer to what you had been wondering, whether or not that this was too good to be true.
"I'll do it." You said confidently, something in your gut trying to hold you back to no avail. He grinned, handing you the contract and a real pen this time. You put your name on the line, and looked at him with a smile, before giving him a firm handshake.
"Now, let's see what your job will be." He said looking through some papers on his desk, before pulling one out.
