Life got a little more complicated for the tiny Britany when the doorbell rang.
“Helloooo…?” A high pitched voice called through. “Mrs Jefferson? It’s Katie from down the street! Is Britany there?”
“Comingggg!” Britany’s mom called back, ambling up to the door with a towel around her head like a turban. “If only someone else could get the door…”
Several locks were unbolted, and a flustered looking Katie was allowed inside at last. With short ginger hair and thick glasses, she wasn’t the most popular of middle schoolers, but then again, neither was Britany. Aside from Britany being hapless at Math, they got on like a house on fire.
“And a good morning to you, Katie.” Britany’s mom sighed happily. “Lazybones is here somewhere, feel free to find her. As you can see, I’m only half dry, so I’ll be getting back to that if you don’t mind…”
”Oh, of course!” Katie nodded, and was quickly left to her own devices as Britany’s mom disappeared back down the hallway.
Katie, left unattended, simply wandered into the living room and took a seat on the couch. “Weird, Brit’s normally ready and waiting by now. If I was a Britany, where would I be…?”
