Athlete VS Foot
Mary Branson sighed as she watched her students march into the classroom. It wasn't even three hours into the school day, but the 48-year-old teacher was counting down the seconds until she could head home. It felt like her feet were screaming. She had made the mistake of wearing a new pair of pumps without breaking them in first. Despite having a modest 2 inches, the walk to class alone had her soles aching. Mrs. Branson almost audibly whined as she stood up from her chair. She grabbed the stack of papers in front of her and walked in front of her desk to address the class.
“ALRIGHT CLASS, EVERYBODY SETTLE DOWN”
The woman's voice rumbled through the air and Drew shuddered from the sound. The shrunken bully was still in hysterics from his brush with death, tears and snot streaming down his face as he stared up at his uncaring, gigantic classmates. He so badly to curl up into a ball and disappear, praying that this was all some sort of horrible nightmare. But the godlike teacher's voice continue to boom above, making it impossible to ignore his new reality.
It was difficult to make out what was being said, as the pounding syllables were beginning to rattle Drew's brain, but he made out the word “test” which caused the students to erupt in mock groaning. This new cacophony was far louder than the teacher's rambling, and the poor boy fell to the ground clutching his ears in agony. He almost didn't notice the tremors shaking the earth below him, but they soon increased in force until it was impossible to ignore.
Drew turned around and gasped. The teacher was walking down the aisle between the desks handing out tests, heading straight his way. Fresh tears began to well in his eyes as her battleship-sized shoes crossed huge amounts of distance at an incomprehensible speed. Her legs, clad in dark nylon, resembled two skyscrapers somehow sweeping in front of one another. It was a terrifying sight.
Drew let out a desperate shriek as the woman's left foot landed several yards away. A blast of displaced air swept by the tiny student, knocking him over. He alternated between coughing from the cloud of dust surrounding him and crying from the impending danger. Thoroughly humbled, and too scared to move in any direction, Drew looked up, straining his neck as he tried to see past the black skirt into the heavens above.
“Down here!! Please! I need help!!”
Mrs. Branson failed to take notice of the minuscule squeaks coming from below her. Her attention was on a student across the room that caught her eye as she passed out today's tests.
“TYLER, WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT THAT PHONE. IF I SEE IT AGAIN I'M KEEPING IT.”
Drew cried as the teacher's voice rumbled above. She took no notice of him. A teacher, who was supposed to keep him safe in an emergency. He yelped as the massive foot suddenly lifted high into the air and then slammed down with enough tectonic force to toss him high into the air. Before he could recover the mighty appendage repeated the action.
WHAM
WHAM
WHAM
Mrs. Branson was merely tapping her foot in annoyance, unaware of the havoc below her. Drew wailed as each tap of her foot tossed him to and fro, terrified that he was gonna end up smashed beneath her. One final tap of the annoyed teacher sent him careening on top of her shoe among a wave of classroom dust, akin to a beached whale. Before Drew could recover or even realize what was happening Mrs. Branson resumed walking, and the world suddenly became a blur.
After handing out all the tests Mrs. Branson quickly retreated back to her desk, eager to get off her feet. As the class quieted down and began working she pulled her feet from their cramped prisons. She almost coo-ed as she rested her throbbing, swollen soles on the cold floor and gracelessly massaged the balls of her feet into the linoleum. Mrs. Branson heard what she thought was a quiet whining sound coming from somewhere, but wrote it off to the strange plumbing in the building.
Drew had managed to survive the walk through the rest of the classroom by desperately holding on to the dark nylon on the top of the teacher's foot, but when she sat down all bets were off. He was too dizzy to keep his balance and let out a terrified scream as the foot began to violently shake and thrash. A loud pop sounded through the air as the heel emerged from the shoe and a billowing cloud of moist heat, leather and foot funk suddenly enveloped him. Drew lost his grip and was flung away as everything lurched.
